"What can happen to an engines

"What can happen to an engines preformance if too much oil is added? I have a 1980 Chrysler 45 hp. It was running ok then Iadded fuel and more oil, I then returned to the lake and opend her up, several times it lost power and gained power. Not sure what it is."

"Adding too much oil usually only results in some extra smoke (unless you try running massive amounts of oil) - outboards are "broken in" at mix rates of 25:1 and run fine.

The losing/gaining power could be a number of things including (but not limited to), old spark plugs, a bad fuel pump diaphram, air leak in the fuel line somewhere, clog in the gas tank vent, clog developing in a carb, crank seal leak etc..."
