TOO much cranking !

My 2008 Crusader Classic has an electric fuel pump and is carbed.Because (I think) it has a safety oil pressure switch that doesn't turn on the fuel pump until oil pressure is present makes for more cranking than I feel should needed to fire engine.I am considering adding a under dash hidden switch that I can turn on my fuel pump for a few seconds to fill carb before hitting the key.Anyone been here and done this? Any wiring advise?

Thanks in advance! Michigander

FastJeff has posted his solution a few times...use the search function and you should find it. You should be able to ignore the plumbing mods as you don't need them.

In essense, all you need is two SPST momentary switches, one for each engine and some MARINE GRADE wire. Get a protected source (+12V) to one side of the switch and the other side goes to the pump's +12V lead. Hold the button for a few seconds to get the carb wet and then hit the key. repeat for the other engine.

Thank you sir, The 12volt lead for the fuel pump runs on top of the intake manifold and has an in line fuse. If I splice in between the oil pressure switch and the fuse is there any chance it would back feed to the pressure switch? Seems to me the switch would be in an open state and not be a problem.

Thanks again,Michigander

sounds like you want to put the switch parallel to the oil pressure switch...that will work. The only thing to consider is if you want your prime function to work with or without the ignition key on. depending upon how long it takes to fill the bowl and how loud your horns are...a personal choice. Definately safer doing it that way.
