Too much Alternator Voltage

Starboard '82 Sea Ray alte

Starboard '82 Sea Ray alternator is putting out 18 volts @ 2500 RPM. Does this indicate the internal voltage regulator is bad?? Can the VR be replaced separately? (Delco Alternator)

the regulator can be changed..

the regulator can be changed....just watch that you have to remove the screen completely to get that big rubber plug off... I actually put a self-exciting regulator in mine and just cut the excitation wires and put a glob of RTV on them
