Tohatsu question

If you mean the MD115 TLDI and the M140 2-stroke, everything. For one thing the M140, not available in the US, is a carbureted 2-stroke, whereas the MD115 is direct fuel injection. The MD115 is the largest motor presently available from Tohatsu in North America. All Tohatsu motors currently available in NA (from 40 hp on up) are now TLDI. In some other parts of the world, the 115, 120, and 140 are available as 2-strokes. See http://www.tohatsu.co.jp/en/boat/products/ for international info.

I am affraid I don't know enough about these other than what i've read that they are very reliable. I am hunting for a motor for a 17' boat that will be a primary inter-coastal cruiser and lite offshore fishing.

The older carbureted 2-strokes were available as both a 115 and a 140. The new direct injection model (TLDI) is only available as a 115hp. Not sure why they don't release a 140hp version of it...probably has something to do with the emissions being too high as a 140(?)

I have read somewhere that the 115 and 140 carb version, the base engine is the same. This is what I'd like to confirm and hopefully locate one to install on my McKee Craft.

Yes, on the older carb version, the 115 & 140 were the same motor. From what I've read it was a simple change to turn the 115 into a 140 (just an adjustment to the throttle stop or something like that). You can probably search older posts and find the answer.
