Just a note for those who might have experienced this.
My 2019 Tohatsu 50hp 4 stroke "forgot" the variable trolling idle. The trigger was the fuel connector rattling free (since replaced) and the motor going from 4900rpm to zero in a blink. This happened on two separate occasions before I replaced the connector. Once restarted all fine except for the variable idle: the motor simply idled at the factory 850rpm. First time around the importer (Australia) was of little help and the dealer had the motor for three weeks before returning it. He'd taken my ECU out and started it with a new ECU: variable idle fine. Once my ECU was put back the variable idle functioned fine. He did not know why. The second time this occurred, I disconnected the battery from the motor and then disconnected the ECU in situ (removed the harness wiring to it) and left it well over an hour. Once everything was reconnected the variable idle performed flawlessly and has done ever since. Seems a "hard reboot" or "factory reset" as they say with mobile phones/computers does the trick. Just how long it needs to be disconnected for - no idea.
