I have a Tohatsu outboard 2 cycle M30A2 engine. I am currently having a starting problem. Everything turns over just fine. However I am not getting it to start up. I replaced the spark plugs and tested for spark as they were pretty badly gummed up. I am getting no spark. I have disconnected the kill switch which i have heared can lead to no spark. But that still didnt work. Now I am hearing to get a DVA tester to test for the exciter coil and pulsar coil. I can even find a manual for this old engine. I have replaced the fuel and clean the fuel filter also. But if there is no spark then I need to figure this problem out first.
Can I use a voltmeter to test for the DVA. I do have the setting which to test the coils.
What am I looking at as far as no spark goes? how do I actually test for those coils and is there anything else I can do here at home before taking it to the PROS?
