Tohatsu 18hp 2 stroke - stalls :(

I've got a M18C2 outboard. I'm told its a late 80's but I really don't know too much about the motor.

Took the motor out a few times and it would stall at times. Not sure why.
I'm fairly new to the boating scene so please excuse my ignorance.
The last time I took it out I was given the good advice to let the motor warm up.
It ran pretty good that day. It started every time w half a pull. I was so happy I got silly and gave it 3-4 quick revs. This stalled the motor. :( I pulled until my right side started aching and I had to switch to my left. Finally, got to to start while idling. As soon as I pop it into gear it would stall. After a few attempts it finally started running again and I took it easy to make sure I get back to the docks.

Did I flood the engine w my shenanigans? Does it seem like the carb needs work?

Start with a Factory service manual. Using it as a guide, review and inspect the fuel, electrical, and mechanical systems, in that order. Odds are the fuel system needs a good cleaning.

Thanks!
I paid a mobile mechanic to rebuild the carb n change the fuel lines.
I guess I'll take it apart myself and dunk it in some solvent overnight.
