A bit confused on the ignition system on the Tracker Johnson which is coming tomorrow.

Parts lists shows a stator (NLA), charge coil & lam, and then at bottom a Kit AY PP (looks like it's the Sensor). It doesn't list a Sensor.

1. Did the stator on some of these models get replaced with just a charge coil assy?
2. Or did some models come with a stator for battery charging, and others just the charge coil for starting?

It is an electric start remote control.

Boat is here now. This motor has no power pack, just 2 wire bundles coming from under flywheel. The orange wires to coil come straight from under flywheel.

I cannot locate that drawing and is not even included in the J/E manual for 71-89 models

The stator is for battery charging.----The charge coil is part of the ignition.-----The sensor was built into the powerpack.----Powerpack is under the flywheel.

The powerpack (the black curved box under fw) has the ob and og wires going to the coil and has sensor built into it. Makes sense.

The single coil (charge coil) under fw is what powers the powerpack under the fw?
And the yellow are all from stator.

If that stator is bad and NLA, then just no charging any longer. Or was there some other upgrade?

Is that correct?

racerone, didn't test anything yet. Was making sure I understood the wiring.

However, the CDI guide I have doesn't even show this wiring under any of the Johnson pages, so I have no actual specs

Got the ignition replaced. Engine starts, runs good. Had to replace ignition switch cos it had a 3 terminal switch, so you couldn't shut the engine off..duh

The only odd thing to me is the idle. I had to clean Carbs as they were FULL of gooey crude. Ended up doing it twice after finding debris in fuel line.
I completely reset all the linkage, measured rods for correct length etc.

2 things off concern:
It idles, but the idle screw adjustment does very little to increase idle speed.
The bottom carb mixture screw seems to have little if any effect, but the top carb screw will make the engine react and shut down.
