timing sensor melted?? 25hp johnson

just pulled my flywheel still have a half throttle power loss issue rebuilt carb new coils plugs new lines gas tank and primer bulb

well found some melted black liquid under the sensor assembly all it shows when i look up part online does this sensor have anything to do with timing?

its leaking the sealant and is in rough shape. any one know if this could be my whole problem?

Well it certainly is a problem, if not now it will be. The sensor tells the powerpack when to produce a spark at the coils, so it absolutely does affect timing.

ok guys i replaced the timing sensor charge coil both ign coils plugs fuel pump rebuilt carb and still have the same problem but now it will sputter at idle then drop in rpm then come back up after emitting a puff of smoke thru the exhaust like a cylinder is going dead intermittenly. could my stator be causing this? it is the only thing i havent replaced. check timing with a light and its good also

does the stator provide power for the spark? i was under the impression the stator just charged the battery and the charge coil was for spark please help i have so much invested in this motor i have to get it running

So, how about it? Do you have a steady spark on both cylinders or not? There are other reasons for misfiring, such as water getting into a cylinder, or even a bad spark plug.

Charge coil powers the ignition, the other coils charge the battery, nothing to do with ignition.

both new champion plugs the problem has gotten worse over the course of 2 weeks new tank primer bulb lines now it will intermittently cut out while idling it will puff a thing of smoke then run fine then idle low puff smoke then idle fine is that a cylinder dropping off?

ok while i was running it just a min ago one of the fuel lines coming off the manual primer was spritzing a little fuel while running tightened up we shall see now
