"Bummer I must have not hit the post button now I have to type all of this again....lol

I have a 1986 29 foot Cruisers Elegante with twin Crusader 270's running borg warner v-drives.

the starboard engine rotates LH/CCW while the port engine rotates RH/CW.

The timing scale is missing on my port engine and I would like to avoid having to purchase a new timing cover with the scale, or I may have to buy a cover and just move the scale over to the existing cover.

However, since the port engine rotates opposite the starboard engine, wouldn't the scale on the port engine be reversed when compared to the starboard...i.e... the after top dead center marks and before top dead center marks would be reversed....????"

"replacement timing scale is available at local auto parts store. bolts on easily. you need to know the diameter of the dampener to get the right one.
yes, just read the other side of the scale.(atc)
check on your flywheel cover for a rubber plug on top. there are timing marks on the flywheel also."

"scott thanks a ton, that sounds like good news to my ears.

the timing marks you mention are they on the flywheel? or are they under the timing chain cover?

these engines sit in the boat backwards so i will look for the rubber plug on the flywheel cover tomorrow....

"Scott you were right on, right above the engine ID plate was a rubber plug on the flywheel housing when I removed it it had timing marks on the ID plate and a timing mark on the flywheel. That made it very easy to get the timing set...

thank you
tim

I love crusaders...lol"
