Timing problem

I have a Crusader CH270 and it wont stay timed. I time it to 10 degrees as stated in the book and after a few hits on the throttle it either goes to 5 degrees or around 15 degrees, so anyone have an idea why it wont stay timed?

Check the advance mechanism in the distributor. I'd suspect it is binding and in need of maintenance.
