I have a Mercruiser 3.0 and i need to know where 1deg btc is. My plate on the engine has 6 jagged straight edges. It does not have the jagged edges that look like a chart. Any help with a picture would be great..

Note, I'm using this service bulletin as an example only, Because page 2 will help give you an idea of the numbers your looking for on the tag, I'm not sure of your engine year and serial number, So the other info your about to read is at your own discretion or risk.

You should be able to find the correct procedure on setting engine timing in the service manual for your engine as well.

Hope this helps, Good luck.

Why not just borrow a variable timing gun and set to specifications and setting pointer on crank to zero with engine idling or close to idle. No guess work and it is exact. Half the marks on my timing cover were mashed right off from the rectifier magnets breaking loose on an old 470 engine pretty much leaving me guessing where the numbers were. If you can read the zero which I believe is in the center of the notches you should be able to adjust distributor. Get motor running first and warmed up then try and get idle as low as possible without stalling and just set what the factory specs. for your engine. Then you can actually do idle adjustments if it is carbed.
good luck, Tom
