I have an oil leak at the frnt

I have an oil leak at the frnt of my 3.0L 1984 VP. I pulled the harmonic balancer and found the front seal leaking. Do I have to remove the timing cover or can I do it while the cover is installed on the boat. I know seloc says to remove it but it just loos like it would be simple enough with the timing cover installed. I have built a tool to press seal back in.
Thanks

How much extra work is to remove the timing cover? It seems to me that you just have to remove 8 little screws and then you can do the job right.

my concern is the oil pan gask

my concern is the oil pan gasket if I remoce the timing cover. I do not have the equipment to remove the engine to replace the oil pan gasket.

"I have never removed the fron

"I have never removed the front seal without first removing the cover. I guess that if you try it your way and it works, then you will be OK; and if it doesn't work, you will have to remove the cover anyway to do the job as per the book's instructions. I don't foresee much of a problem pressing the seal in situ if you have the right tool, but removing the exisiting one may not be so easy."
