Timing chain cover

i replaced my timing

i replaced my timing chain and sprockets on my merc. 898-260. i'm trying to replace the cover...
can i do it without dropping the oil pan? i'm using a new gasket, but re-using the rubber piece at the bottom. should that piece get rtv on it ? both sides of it? should the main gasket get rtv? if i gotta drop the oil pan, do i need to replace the gasket on it? or can i just drop it down just enough, put some rtv on it, and pop it back up in place after installing timing chain cover."
