I'm bartering for a 1990 15 horsepower Mercury 2 stroke tiller. the guy bought it at an estate sale and it never really been used other than maybe a few hours. It has the original gear oil in it! The guy apparently went to a boat dealership the guy at the dealership said he shouldn't replace the impeller because it might be cracked. The guy replaced the impeller and I assumed when I made the deal that he had changed the gear oil. He admitted to me last night that he took it fishing with the original 30+ year gear oil still inside of it.
I haven't picked the motor up yet. I'm asking you guys for advice at how much damage if any could have been done by operating the motor under load with 30-year-old gear oil
