On a boat project I inherited with a Mercury 40hp, I discovered that the tilt switch on the motor works the opposite of what I believe it should.
Specifically, pressing the rocker to the side labelled "Down" causes the motor to tilt up, and vice versa.
It appears that at some point a previous owner flipped the rocker switch upside down so that the tilt direction matches the switch orientation instead of the lettering on the rocker.
I've not yet begun to go through the wiring in detail, and wouldn't assume the trim switch on the control box wouldn't also be affected (not yet tested) or I'd leave it as it is for now.
Before pulling out wiring, I was hoping others may have ideas what to look for. I didn't see any crossed wiring if the correct wires are blue/white and green/white.
If you have tips on how to remove that switch, that would help. I see what looks like a metal clip that may be holding it in place but it's not apparent how to remove it from the back side of the switch.
Thanks in advance.
