"Leaking fuel around the red lever for manual prime. Steady drip. Obviously I dont know much about boat motors, but I am fairly sure that is not a good thing. In police work, we call that a "clue"."

I saw that on your profile. Thanks for your service. 4 military and 16 as a cop here. 2.1 years to retire! I am hoping that its the solenoid causing the problem. Was attempting to fix that when the tilt went hay-wire on me.

"To loosen the manual relief valve...

Use a big screwdriver with a square shaft, put a wrench on the shaft or use a $20 home depot impact driver and hammer to loosen the valve."

My fear at this point is that I have already tried the square shaft screwdriver and adjustable wrench and the face of that screw is getting worn. What happens if I strip it?

"what usually happens, one ear will brk off, making it in-op.but,in your situation,ya gotta do something---a hand impact nearly always brks the ear off....i would just load her up,maybe a cpl buddies can help,or a tow to the ramp etc."

"Yeah I am with you JWB. I need to get this thing out of the water before I tinker any more. If that screw head does break, which I know in my heart it will, can I just tap it out?"

"possibly,......u may end up removing the whole tnt unit,to repair the initial problem,or take it to a shop, and let the whole thing be thier problem...their are after market good, tnt units,as well as OEM.sometimes,u would be better buying a new unit, instead of paying alot of labor to rebuild.esp,if it is corroded bad,and elect mtr is corroded..compl units, will be around 1100.00 up,plus r & r."

"JWB, add this to your tool box of knowledge. Pulled the boat today, and tried putting weight on the motor while a friend pushed the down button. Nothing. Then had him push the up button while I raised slightly on the motor and it broke free and seems to be working like a champ. Going to top off the fluid and cycle it through a couple of times just to be sure. Isnt that an odd position for the fluid tank to be facing out like that? You seem to make no progress when you dump that fluid in as it drips right back out again before you get the top back on it!"

glad to see it was something simple.

i didnt know they could lock up like that.

when the fluid runs out with the motor all the way up its full.

"I posted this message in the

"I posted this message in the wrong discussion originally. Sorry. Anyway, this is the discussion I wanted to add to. Here goes. I found this discussion about the motor stuck in the up position. I have a power trim problem. The down button on the throttle lever doesn't work. I was hoping I might get a clue to my problem in that discussion. Then I got interested. I followed the dialogue in this discussion all the way until the motor came down and things were working fine. It brought a tear to my eye. I like happy endings. I know the excitement that comes when you get a possible cure to a problem. The excitement builds in anticipation as you take the necessary steps. Then comes the test. That being the case, I also know the disappointment when the possible remedy doesn't work. Eventually, something does! Anyway, I'm going striper fishing tomorrow with or without the down trim on the throttle handle working. The up switch works and both up and down work on the motor. Thanks!

PS I don't expect the administrators to respond to this message. They, You?, already responded to the message in the location it was posted in the first time. Again, my apologies and I think I understand the proper procedure a little better now."

"Joe, today is the first time I've seen this site. I was having a good time following your conversation with them. It seemed like a good place to discuss stuff so I joined. I was feeling for you trying to find resolve with your "stuck motor". I got so caught up in the dialogue you guys were having that it was a relief to me even, when it started working for you. Anyway, nice chattin!

Tim"
