Tilt / trim test honda bf90a

I have a midsection with a tilt trim assembly only and I want to hook it up to a 12 volt battery and see if the tilt trim still operates.

The tilt assembly has two wire harnesses coming off of it. One is a larger two wire lead that goes to the trim relay box. The other is a smaller three wire lead that eventually goes to the up/down button.

How do I safely connect this to a battery and make it work?

I have no other gear, no switch box..... nothing just this midsection and tilt trim assembly.

After studying the wire diagram I believe I connect the + and - to the big two wire harness. It may just work at this point. but if not I would put - in the middle of the 3 wire and + on either end of the 3 wire harness for up and down?

Ok, I can't find how to edit/delete my own thread so let me correct/answer it here.

The three wire harness I mention above actually comes out of the trim sensor, not the tilt motor. Sorry.

To test it all you need to do it jump the larger two wire harness to 12V and it operates. I just did it and it works fine. Reverse the polarity and it runs the other direction.

Sorry for this post.....

Sometimes you get the best answer that way.

For those who have not tried this, beware of the large sparks when you connect the wires to the battery.
