Tilt/Trim sensor readings in ohm's??

Does anyone happen to know what the proper readings for these should be in the up and down positions? In up I was around 1.2 in down I was around .3

Issue is dead gauge. It's not the gauge. Already slapped in a new one. I would just go ahead and buy this sensor, but at $190. I really don't want to guess and have it be the harness.

This is on a 1995 DP-C1 1.95

I'd like to assume that because I'm seeing the change in the two different positions, the sensor is good. I'd just like to know for sure if the numbers are in the proper range.
 
Again, my thought is that if this were a bad sensor, the numbers would not move as the drive lifted and lowered, or I would just read infinity on the meter showing a broken circuit. I'm just hoping someone with one of these working senders can take a minute and pull their readings for me so that I can make sure my numbers are in proper range. Thanks.
 
I have a 1994 DP-C1 and had a the same problem several years ago. Replaced the sensor and that didn't help - the gauge was still erratic. After alot of searching and testing and poking around in the dash, I found a really weird looking black plastic thing with alot of wires coming off one end. Come to find out it was a trim control unit part no.873226. The thing wasn't cheap but it fixed my problem. Good luck
 
Yeah, my particular little black box is 857534. I'm hoping not to have to go there. I picked up the entire harness 853032 New Old Stock for just $29. I'd love for it to be a short in that.
 
Did you have to do any rewiring? Outside of the main harness, mine has one yellow wire that goes to the gauge. The 873226 has 2 wires and a special connector on the end. Did you have to mess around with either of those two wires? Cut the connector off and cap off one of the two that was not used? Thanks.

Chris, It has been several years since I did this and my memory isn't what it used to be. It seems like one of the connectors was different but the wires were the same color so I spliced them. I could be wrong tho and I'm not much of a mechanic so I can't be of much help. I mainly just wanted to let you know that there was more to the system than just the sender and the gauge.
 
Thanks tarheeltom. That little black box converts the incoming digital signal to analog for your gauge. Looks as though I need one as well. So, off to scour the internet.

1) IF the tilt/trim sensor is digital and not analog as you suggest, you really can't use an ohmmeter to test it...

2) If the tilt/trim sensor is analog, that range of readings ( 1.2 and 0.3 ohms?) does not sound correct.
 
I always try to finish the thread with what the actual fix was. It turned out to be the same black box that Tarheeltom mentioned. Relevant part numbers are 873226 or 857534. They are really the same part. Search eBay if you need one. Mine was $180 for one that was NOS. I have seen some listed as high as $300. To do this again, I would do this;

1. Measure Ohm's at the connector at the top of the drive as the drive was raised and lowered. If you see movement, good chance the sensor is working.
2. Measure it again, but this time under the dash at the end of the cable. If no movement there, or open, cable probably bad.
3. If movement is still seen, cable is probably good, and then move onto the little black box. Not sure how to test it, but again it's job is to convert digital signal to analog, so that right there tells me that this is something that probably is prone to fail.
