tilt & trim problem

when triming motor down it will jerk and skip and then just cut off, after a min or two it will work again but still jerk, when i raise it , it will go up smoothly and may or may not cut off. 1998 115 spl

i had the same problem with my 1999 40....
it happend for about a month, then i smelt a burning smell and my key switch burnt out and i found out there was a short in my wireing harness which was burning my key switch out so i changed my wireing harness and the problem is not there anymore! :| it was very weird when i was lowering it back down i had to give it more gas that way it would not stall but still did sometimes!
