Tilt/trim problem

the tilt/trim is having a little problem trying to raise. It does seem to go up but it sounds like air is passing through the pump and raises slower than usual. Goes down without a problem. Was fine before I put it away for the winter.

Motor is 1995 Evinrude 48 special

Should I just check and fill the fluid level? Any other suggestions?

thanks
T

If the electric motor is running at its normal rpm..... yes, have the engine in a full tilted position and fill the reservoir. Let us know if this cures the problem.

raised the motor full up. Removed the fill screw and filled as directed in manual. Cycled the motor up/down several times and you could hear less and less air each time till finally it appears to raise normally.

One more question. Where did the fluid go to cause this problem?

went back last night and the motor was still holding in the up position. No signs of leakage anywhere on the unit. Any ideas of why I could have had the problem? Do the units consume oil over time?

No, the PTT units do not consume the fluid, but intermitent leaks do happen from time to time. Just keep your eye on it for awhile.
