"There is no circuit breaker o

"There is no circuit breaker on that unit so the problem is most likely a bad connection, either loose or tight but dirty. Clean all connections and retighten. Let us know if that cures the problem."

In the electric motor there is

In the electric motor there is a bi-metal switch which breaks the power to the motor if it draws too much current...this only happens when the motor is on its way out

"The 1976 to 1980 PTT electric

"The 1976 to 1980 PTT electric motors incorporated a three wire motor that did indeed have a ciruit breaker within the electric motor.

In 1981, OMC used the two wire electric dual polarity motor that did not have a circuit breaker, BUT in that year only, they also used the three wire electric motor which did have the circuit breaker as Jamie states.

The use of both systems for that year had slipped my mind. If you have the three wire electric motor, then the electric motor does indeed have a circuit breaker within it."

if you are refering to the wir

if you are refering to the wires that run from the motor there are only 2 i have traced them back to the box and cleaned the connections. i will be hitting the water in about 2 hours for a days fishing so i'll let you know how it goes.
thanks guy's.

"this,is also known to happen,

"this,is also known to happen,if u have a severe bind on the system,,....most common,on jackplates..........saltwtr engine?"

"Jumper wires connected to tha

"Jumper wires connected to that two wire electric motor will cause it to run in one direction. Reversing those jumpers will cause it to run in the opposite direction.

Disconnect the two wire electric motor at its plug in connector. using jumper wires directly from the battery to those two wires, operate the PTT up and down a half dozen times or so.

If no problems are encountered, I'd suspect a connection problem elsewhere."

thanks for all the advice guy&

thanks for all the advice guy's. cleaning the connections didn't work but on closer inspection there is a fair bit of corrosion around the back of the motor case that looks terminal. looks like a new motor is going into it.
