On my Johnson 50hp (J50PLEEA) I went in to change the top cap assembly on the tilt trim. While replacing the cap the pins, springs, and ball bearings of the pistons separated and had what I had thought were properly reassembled. After filling with fluid and no pressure build I open up the cylinder to see what had gone wrong. I had found that the springs, pins, and ball bearings were scattered across the top half of the cylinder. However I am beyond puzzled over this...on the initial assembly there were 6 springs, 6 pins, and 5 ball bearings. When i went back in after it not gaining pressure there were only 6 springs, 5 pins, and 4 ball bearings. After further inspection I could not come across a hole in the cylinder big enough to take in the pin. The ball bearing makes sense, however the pin not so much. Can anyone shed light on this? I am tempted to just buy a new cylinder assembly for 150 vs a full rebuild for 350 and additional time not on the water.
I had thoroughly inspected the cylinder and fluid that was in it for the two missing parts.
