Tilt/Trim for '87 40HP Johnson

Greetings fellow boaters...

I've got an '87 40hp Johnson (Model# J40ELCUD) that is attached to a 16' G3 flat bottom aluminum boat that I bought last year. I'm currently having to reach back and manually lift the motor out of the water when fishing through shallows or launching the boat. This has gotten old REALLY quick. The motor is not too heavy, but I'm not getting any younger and reaching over the back of the boat to lift the 40hp is not getting any easier.

I've done a little web searching on e-bay and craigslist for a used tilt/trim unit that will fit my motor, but most of the units are for larger motors. I'm sure one of them will fit my motor, but I'm not sure if the mounting would line up. Any ideas or suggestions on how/where to find a unit that will fit?

Cost IS an issue, or I wouldn't be posting this question. I would just drop the money on one of those fancy retro units that fits ANY transom for ANY motor.

Thanks,
Salty

The factory 2 cylinder units will not fit any others.---------------The common 3 / 4 /6 cylinder units will not fit the 2 cylinder 40.--------------You need the correct factory one or aftyermarket " new " one.

Any ideas on how to search for one of these (ie, part/model number)? I've been having a hell of a time finding anyone with my same motor with a T/T, which is why I was wondering if the same T/T was used on other sized outboards (35hp or larger). This way I could start searching ebay and craigs for other motors.

---------shop.evinrude.com-------------------spend some time on there.-------------------You will learn everything you need to know about these.--------------------------The power trim you are looking for ( factory ) will only fit that family of 2 cylinder motors.---------------------Trim from a larger motor will NOT FIT !!
