"I am running a pair of 200 Oc

"I am running a pair of 200 Ocean Pro’s 1996 model year. Yesterday I lost the tilt / trim on the starboard side unit, port is fine. When I activate both the shifter mounted switches and motor mounted switches I can both feel and hear the solenoids on the left side of the engine activating. I swapped the solenoids from the working unit on to the non working unit with no change. I think my tilt trim motor is probably junk. I noticed when I bought the boat that the tilt motor on the port engine had been replaced but the starboard look in rough shape. So my questions are how hard is it to change the tilt motor out. I am reasonably adept at this stuff. The motor is in the down position, If I can get the bypass open will I be able to manually tilt the motor? My plan was to tilt the motor and take the weight off the tilt bracket pull the upper and lower cross rods and remove the entire assembly, replace the motor and reassemble.
Please feel free to comment – Am I missing something in line between the solenoids and the tilt motor?

Thanks

"You could put an ohmmeter on

"You could put an ohmmeter on the motor leads. It should read near zero resistance. If it is infinite resistance the motor windings may be open.

You will need to get the bypass open to tilt the motor. There should be a manual lock to hold the motor up, while you pull the PTT unit. The wiring does not fit thru the hole in the lower cowling, with the connector attached. You may need to remove it from the connector to get it off."
