tilt proplem 200hp johnson 2000 yr

Power tilt working real slow when going in down , does not go down smoothly jerks as motor goes down.In up mode it does not do this .any simple fix for this?
 
OK, more info needed.--------------Salt water operation ??---------------Problem developed slowly or was an instant event??------------Fluid level checked ??
 
thanks for the come back, its a salt water operation, came on slowly , to be honest don't know where to check the fluid level is it on the opposite side of the trim motor or the main piston ?any help would be greatly appeciated

What often happens is corrosion gets into the parts that rotate .--------------Aluminum + oxygen makes the white stuff ( aluminum oxide )and it jams the whole works up.-------------------You might want to look into or have a shop look into cleaning up the pivot points on your transom brackets.----------The oil reservoir would be on the opposite side of the motor.--Should be a plug to allow you to top it up.
 
Yes I checked the fluild level, it looked to be dirty, added some didnot take much, pivot area looks good no problem going up, do you think the filter under the tilt motor could be clogged it sure does not look easy to remove that motor, if i do anything i should look out for. or should i try and suck out resovoir and refill with clean oil?
