I don't see why you can&#3

I don't see why you can't. I did that on my boat when the outdrive (270) would not raise and quickly found out that the tilt motor only worked in one direction.

"If the motor is like mine &#4

"If the motor is like mine (2 wire, 12 volt), simply disconnect the two wires that are attached to the motor now, and then connect a 12 volt source directly to it (being very careful to not short anything if you get your 12 volts directly from your battery!). Reversing polarity of the connections to the motor should result in the motor turning in the opposite direction."

there is a brown and black wir

there is a brown and black wires is one a ground and is one hot which wire do i connect to battery?

"Again, with the caveat about

"Again, with the caveat about your motor being like mine, it does not matter which wire is attached to ground and which one is attached to hot...the direction the motor turns depends on which wire is hot and which one is ground. This reversal of polarity is normally taken care of by the relays."

It appears as if you have a 28

It appears as if you have a 280 drive... If this is so...
Connecting the brown to +12 and black to ground will cause the motor to turn on one direction.

Connecting the black to +12 and brown to ground will cause the motor to turn on the other direction.

"David,
I recently had one of those motors that had been sitting around for a long time. When I tested it, it wouldn't move either. Out of curiousity I took a pair of pliers and just turned the shaft. It was stuck just enough to prevent it from starting. It probably had a little bit of corrosion or whatever from sitting for so long.

After that it worked great both directions, smooth and quiet.
You might get lucky...try a little WD 40 on that shaft, try turning it and give 'er another go. Nothing much to lose."

"Yea, motor is shot if you att

"Yea, motor is shot if you attached it directly to a good battery and it did not turn. You'll need to buy another motor...shop around...I was lucky enough to find a used one at a local marine recycling place for about 1/2 price of the cheapest new one I could find, and I have also seen new aftermarket ones for sale on the internet for a whole lot cheaper than OEM."
