Tilt lock ratchet system

Have a 1970 Johnson 9.5 - tilted up the engine and cannot figure how to release the ratchet and lower the motor back down.
 
Look for a tilt selector lever in the middle of the stern bracket and change that. You'll have to pick up on the motor to release it.
 
new to working on boat motors. took the ratchet assy apart greased cleaned and for the life of me I cannot find out how to release that gear to lower the prop .
 
Go to shop.evinrude.com, look up your motor there and maybe you'll figure something out. They have good parts breakdowns.
