Tilt Continues Running After Releasing

I own a 1979 classic Mercruiser stern drive handed down to me from my pop. We like to call it vintage. On our last adventure with this beaut the up trim continues to run after releasing the button. It does not do this with the down trim. This is what I've tried thus far:
1) To stop it, we disconnect the negative and when reconnecting it's not longer initiated
2) Checked the fluid level and it's good
3) Checked all connections at the trim motor (not within the control lever)
4) Hit up and pulled the 3-prong plug at the trim motor and it still continued to go up after pulling the plug, which makes me think that it's not the switch on the control arm (correct? or no?)
5) Tapping on the solenoid while trimming up

I'd appreciate any advice from anyone willing to share their experience/expertise. Thanks in advance!

Not sure if it's the same at all as my '99 Yamaha 115, but exact same thing happened to me and I checked everything. Google search said to remove and clean contacts on the "rocker switch" on the control handle. That was last summer and it's still working fine. Be careful with small springs and ball bearings flying out! I used 220 grit sandpaper to clean the corrosion off of the contact points. Hope this works for you. Try to find a video on replacing the switch and that will give you all the steps on getting the switch out. Then take it apart and clean it up.

Also, I think it's universal that on the solenoids, the green wire (grass) is for down and the blue wire (sky) is for up. If you reverse the wires and the motor continues to go down when not pressing the button, it's your switch!

When you unplug the three wire connector it disconnects the control.

The trim pump assembly has its own power supplied by the battery. The control only controls the solenoid (s) for activation. The power to the solenoids (larger red wires to top posts) are part of the independent power from the battery.

Not knowing exactly what trim pump assembly you have, maybe decribe it or add a picture.

Older systems did not have two solenoids, only one. So a little more info is needed as we dont know if your system has been upgraded or not....after all its 46 years old....

Thank you for your insight! It was just a bad solenoid after all, which was surprising since they're only a year and half old. Thanks again!
