Tilt and Trim motor

i have a older tilt and trim unit on my boat. I need a new motor for it. The one i have is a 3 wire unit and all i can find is a 2 wire. Whats the differents between the 2 ? And can i use a 2 wire ? If so what do i need to do to convert what i have ?

The 3 wire unit incorporates a solenoid for the up mode, and direct wiring for the down mode. The 3 wire motor has a "Black", "Blue", and a "Green wire. Battery negative (-) connects to the black wire... Battery positive (+) connects to either the "Blue" or the "Green" wire to have the motor run in one direction or the other.

The 2 wire unit incorporates a complex relay setup for both the up and down mode. Via the relay system, the battery negative (-) connects to one of the motor wires, the battery positive (+) connects to the other motor's remaining wire causing the motor to run in one direction. The wires being reversed via the relay system causes the motor to run in the opposite direction.

The two different type electric motors cannot be interchanged "UNLESS" their associated wiring system (relay/solenoid setup) is interchanged with them.

I have the system for a '75. 115 sitting in the garage. Can't remember the number of wires. Prestolite, cylinders, wiring, gauge, mounts.

Confirm the year as this model was short lived and two types were offered. I will try to post pictures later. One fault is has is that the internal motor thermal relay clicks out in after about 10 seconds but the motor is strong and hydraulics good. Don't know if the relay is weak or what it would take to replace. This is not a new problem. something I lived with until I got a new engine.

I know the outboard is a 1980 not sure the tilt and trim is the same it all came off of a 85 bass boat and I've put it on a 07 seaark so i know i will have to get everything to fix it right
