Tight oil drain plug

I have a 2014 90 hp mercury outboard, i bought used. Did my first oil change and the drain plug was almost impossible to loosen and even harder to tighten to the point where it didn't drip . Does anyone know how difficult it may be or if its a job i can do or need dealer to do?

you need a well fitting screwdriver or driver bit for starters....did you change the gasket (seal) under the head of the plug? They should be changed everytime the plug is removed though you can usually get a few cycles out of them...

its the valve sorry the type
you loosen to drain not the type you remove

Replace it if it isn't working properly.

I cant find anywhere how to replace it. Any thoughts?

Sorry to get back so late. I haven't been able to get back "in" to this site. I would consult your dealer if you can easily. The best way other than that is to take a picture or two and share them with us. A good service manual is a necessity, so get one.
