Ok guys I'm new to the forum and I just bought my first boat. It's got a mercury thunderbolt 500. When I bought it the guy told me that the fuel pump had went out but be had the new parts to fix it. The new parts is a tiny bag with gaskets or whatnot in it. I know my way around a car engine but never messed with a boat. How do I go about getting to the fuel pump? I know how to get the motor exposed just wish I had a "Haynes" manual or something to go by. Anyone that can help would be great! Pictures would be fantastic. Thanks in advance and please don't respond with "use the search function that questions been asked before" thanks guys

You can try this link - it has complete parts diagrams listed by serial number (the link is for model 500, 50 horse Mercs).

It will give you exploded views of all aspects of the motor.

Seloc's does produce a manual that would cover your motor. It's available in printed or "on-line" format (from this site and many others) - runs about 35 bucks and well worth it if you are going to maintain the motor yourself...

(should have added) - the fuel pump in integral to the carb on this motor...

Don't be surprised to find extra parts in that kit--it's made for several models. Use liquid soap to lube the impeller.

kimcrwbr1 - I will get the serial number this evening. But, to do so I need to know where to look. Where do I find the serial number? And thanks for the tip Jeff. Graham Thanks for the link, it was very informative.

here is the fuel pump p/n 66777A 1 there is two different ones for that serial number the serial number is how you know what one works for yours the pump is unavailable on our site and doesn't show a rebuild kit for the later serial number range

Well thank you for the help on the fuel pump issue. But now I have a much larger one I think. I noticed that there was a small oil spot under the propeller where it is parked. I saw that the propeller looked to be sitting funny. I grabbed the prop and it all just slid straight out. Just in front of the propeller is a plastic threaded ring that I believe threads into the lower unit?? but it is stripped, the plastic threaded ring, not the lower unit. I am unable to post pictures at this time but will as soon as I am able. Could someone please tell me where to start? All the gears are intact and in good shape. Thanks in advance
