Thru Hull Exhaust Question...

I am a new new owner of an Caravelle Interceptor 212 and this is my first I/O. I have the thru hull exhaust option and I noticed that one side of the exhaust has a bit more water and sound coming from it that the other. I would say its a 70/30 split from side to side in terms of noise and water. Is this a normal occurrence w a merc thru hull? I had a pre-purchase inspection and everything checked out and they did replace the exhaust bellows so I just wanted to make sure this is normal. Boat seems to run awesome and they did a compression check and everything checked out. Thanks Jim

Boats are outfitted before the top is installed. Learning to stand on your head is part of I/O ownership.

Yea nature of the beast.
Excuse me, but I'm going to call BS on that!

A 70/30 split may be normal while operating on the garden hose and water muffs. But if you're seeing a 70/30 split in flow while running up on step,
I think that something is wrong.

Whether an "open" system (raw water cooled) or a "Closed Cooling" system, there will be a spent sea water "diverter"or "T" or "Y" fitting of some sort.
When new and when working correctly, this should divide the spent sea water fairly equally between each exhaust side.
However, when our systems get older, things don't always work as when they were new.

I'd be checking the flow characteristics from that point on, if I were you.
A 70/30 split would not be acceptable in my book.

It's likely something very simple and easy to correct.

I vote check out why so big a difference. A quick hand touch of of each exhaust riser will tell you if both sides are getting equal cooling at 3,000 rpms in neutral.
Salt kills flow rates over time.

On a raw water system I thought the cooling for the exhaust comes from the T'stat hsg. Lime/rust/salt deposits will build up at any junction where the fitting causes a little turbulence in the flow. A good way to check water flow while under way is to install some reinforced clear water hose before the exhaust on each side...use a short piece of pipe to connect the hose.
