"I have a 2003 Honda 130. The boat and motor are new to me. I took it out on Sunday, and after a short run, it developed a lot of slop, or slack in the throttle, where there is no increase in power for about 5 inches of movement. I think that a cable probably just slipped. Is the adjustment made in the throttle housing? How does the cover come off? Thanks."

"Anthony - your shifter "may" be functioning normally.

Alot of shifters, particularly the ones where the throttle and shifter are all in one handle use a huge cam and a couple of arms to facilitate firstly getting it into gear without advancing the throttle.

Then advancing the throttle without further moving the shift cable. What this tends to do is create a "dead zone" about 2/3 the way through the throttle arc where you can have 2 to 4 inches of "throw" before anything else happens. It's just working through the long arc of the cam.

So you "may" have a cable problem, or your shifter just "may" be working the way it is designed....."

"Sorry, one more note. As long as your motor is reaching it's max rpms by the time you get to the end of your throttle, it is probably not the cable...."
