"Newbe on outboards=Have 1968 50hp--#2305952 Starts great -idles fine. But when given w.o.t. motor seems only to reach 1/2 power.Pumped fuel bulb no difference in rpm's.BUT looked into carbs and saw throttle plate barely opening on both carbs, distributor only turning a little and being stopped by the spark advance screw stop should this/can this- be turned in to increase rpm and not cause damage to motor so throttle plates can open fully -- thanks for your help in advance Norm"

woops I should have read the entire thing. You should put a timing light on the motor as you back off the spark advance screw. Is the spark advance on a separate arm? If it is you can simply back off the arm as well. I'm not entirely sure what the max spark advance is for that motor but most motor are anywhere from 23-26 degrees.

"The top half f your distributor is froze up. The bottom half only turns so far before it hits a stop (full advance). The top half then rotates further, opening the carbs the rest of the way.

Try grease via the fitting and possibly a little heat. If that does do it, the assembly will need to come off, be disassembled and cleaned.
