Throttle issue

This is my first post to this forum, but have found out some great info on here. So thanks for all the help you have given to me so far.

Im currently dealing with a throttle issue that I can't seem to figure out. I removed the Volvo Penta SX outdrive and replaced the motor this past summer. After putting it all back together the prop spins when I have it in neutral and half throttle during initial start up. Not sure what I did to cause this or what I need to do to fix it. Can someone please advise me on what I need to do to correct this issue?
The vessel is a 2002 Glastron 205 S/F

Thanks again

when you reinstalled the drive did you properly clamp the jacket of the shift cable to the housing at point of entry.?
did you go thru the shift adj procedure?

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,..... I'm gonna Guess that the prop is turnin' due to the drag of the oil on the gears,.....

Not because the drive is engaged in gear,....

I did clamp the cable housing to the outdrive. Wasn't aware of a shift cable adj. procedure?

If it's just oil on the gears how do I know for sure?

What position should the lever that the cable hooks to on the outdrive be in? I was confused about that when I hooked it all back up.
Thanks for the quick responses.

With the boat in neutral and the engine off I was able to turn the prop in both directions, so I figured it was just oil.
I decided to take the boat to the lake today and see how she runs. Well when I started it in neutral the boat moved forward, luckily I still had the boat tied to the dock. After untying the boat I started it again and immediately shifted to reverse and the boat still wanted to go forward. I then shifted it into forward and it still went forward. So it went forward in neutral, forward, and reverse. I don't understand how this can happen and I hope I didn't majorly screw something up when I did the motor swap. Have any of you ever heard of this before? If so how do I fix it? Thank you

Pull the shift cover on the upper gearbox and see what its doing when you shift gears? Something is not connected IMO

Ditto kimcrbr1... In order for the shift to work AT ALL, the jacket of the cable must be clamped at its proper clamp point at at both the shifter and engine ends. Also... single lever shifters rely on a gear sector mechanism (typically stamped steel) to "couple" the movement of the shift lever (which always is connected to the throttle) to the shift cable. Sometimes this gear is worn to the point of uselessness, or sometimes the gear is not solidly "pinned" to the shift lever that connects to the shift cable. If all is OK at the engine end ( most likely source of trouble) then you will need to (typically) dismount the assemble at the helm and inspect it. Please note that the proper clamp point on both ends of the cable is the annular ring in the stainless "end" that is clamped to the jacket proper. On 200 series drives ( not that familiar with the SX and too busy to look it up), there is a clamp plate that attaches to the drive with a "U" slot that engages the annular ring mentioned above. Typically OEM Volvo manuals have a clear drawing of this and how it attaches to the drive proper.

Thank you for the replies and the help. After thinking about it i went out to the shop to look at it. After a few minutes of tinkering with it, I realized the SS cable keeper wasn't in the notch at the end of the metal cable housing. After fixing this the operation works as it should and the boat runs great. Thanks again for all your help.
