"I have noticed my engine changing rpm sometimes while the throttle is stationary. I have found that the cable has has movement in it. With the engine cover off, I can move the cable back and forth about 1/4" or so, changing engine speed. Will adjusting the knurled knob on the outer cable tube take this slop out?"

"Unfortunately, no. It's unusual for that play to allow movement within the cable UNLESS the tension adjustment at the control box is quite loose."

"Perhaps I didn't make my post clear. The problem is not the movement with the cable. It is throttle linkage movement. As an example; when I throttle up and return the control lever to idle, the engine does not go to a complete idle. I can move the throttle on down to the idle position by hand due to slack in the cable."

"Loosen the clamp that retains the throttle cable at the engine, then adjust the trunion on the cable to lower the idle rpm as desired."
