Throttle and shift cable replacement

I have a 175HP 1985 Johnson wh

I have a 175HP 1985 Johnson which has a broken cable on the remote control. I have opened up the control but I am stumped as how to remove the cable. The cable goes through a round black holder which fits into the casing. How do I remove that black holder and cable?

The black holder you refer to is the cable end that is part of the cable

"Hi Jamie, Thanks for the reply. Yes it is the black holder where the brass bit of the cable goes through. Does it just push into the control box or is it some how scewed in as I cannot remove it out of the control box?
