Hey all,
I’ve recently been working on a 90’s Johnson 25hp tiller outboard. What exactly does the cam plate do in regards to the throttle movements. The cam plate under the flywheel seems to be sticky, I can force it back and forth with a screw driver but it definitely needs to be deconstructed and lubed. As I twisted the throttle the carb butterfly flap will move but it gets halted by no further action done by the sized cam plate.
I took off the spring and mechanism holding back the carb throttle lever and it allows me to go from closed carb to WOT.
I’m assuming the cam plate coordinates spark timing but the engine runs great and revs up to full RPMs. Am I ruining the engine by running it like this? I’ve been meaning to tear it down and lube but have gone out few times since and it runs fine so it seems.
Thanks so much
