Threadlocker for Carbs

I have a 1988 Luhrs 342 with twin Crusader 454's. Just finished rebuilding the Edelbrock 1410 carb's. Any recomendations on the torque for the 4 screws to re-attach the carb's or threadlocker to apply to the screws so they do not loosen?

FYI, the carbs are attached to Edelbrock Manifolds if that makes a difference.

Just tighten them up properly! Use a cross tightening sequence, adding a bit more oompf each time. And use lock washers.

Edelbrock only specifies "hand tight"...GM's value is 132 INCH pounds...the grade 5 carbon steel table, in cast iron says 16-18 FT pounds.

Use the medium or light threadlocking compound - purple (?) or blue

Thanks for the insight. I am also changing the bolts to carburetor with studs so the studs do not have to be removed as often for carb cleaning.

Just my two cents: I found out the hard way. Whatever you tighten to,,,, go back and check it after a few heat cycles. I was cursing a bad rebuild carb (didn't want to idle) only to find out that the carb was barely attached to the motor (but it was close to torque on the install). Forget the threadlocker ,, go back and check it. Tim

Great info and advice. I really appreciate it. This is the first rebuild I have done myself. I have picked up studs to mount on the manifold so that bolts do not have to be removed as before. The studs came with washers and lockwashers.

Seems to remind me of a story. I was 18, a back yard kid mechanic and adapted a Holley carb to my 1973 Toyota FJ-40 Land Cruiser. My ambitious attempt didn't bend the carb ear ....IT BROKE IT OFF!

For what its worth

FWIW; i've had my edlebrocks on and off on the edlerock manifold at least a dozen times each using the same gasket for over ten years. Its a thick spacer fiber gasket, not the thin paper type. I also use bullet nose studs and LW hex nuts. I was fighting water in the tank for quite a while before I wised up and replaced the gas tank.
