Third hole in fuel pump

Hi all,

Hoping for a little helping hand...

I am changing the fuel pump on my mariner 125. Just a little confused as there are three holes on the side that attaches to the engine block, two are for screws to attach it, but the third just seems to be a port into the pump itself. Is there a connection that goes between them?

Ive attached some pics to explain it better (i hope).

Thanks very much

Ollie

Many thanks - does it just sit flush with the opening into the crankcase? Just curious as presumably if the pump loosens it will suck air in and may be contributing to my engine stalling! My engine is running again after a pump change - I think the gasket had corroded and was therefore sucking air in through the pressure pulse port. does that seem likely?

Seems very likely. If the gasket had deteriorated, the crankcase would suck air and would not create enough vacuum/pressure to the fuel pump for the pump to operate properly.
