I was able to get a thermosta

I was able to get a thermostat for my Gray Marine sea-scout. (still cant understand why one was not put on when rebuilt). The thermostat goes on top of the head with one line going out to the exhaust and the bypass line going back down to the sea cock. My motor now goes up to 140 but no water is coming out of the exhaust. The water is just recirculating. Is this normal?Boat is on the hard so engine is under no load. Should I rev it more?-thomas

I wrote to you before. Do you

I wrote to you before. Do you have a plastic spacer and plastic disk with a spring in the thermostat housing. It controls the pressure in the system.

Even when the water is re circulating some water should becoming out of the system.

I had the same problem. I bet that that there is blockage in the cooling system somewhere I would look at the first right angle past the water pump. Where the hose goes into the top of the engine. It is probably filled with old impeller bits.

Where did you get the thermostat from?

I finally was able to get one

I finally was able to get one from van-ness in NJ. I ran the motor a little longer till it heated up and then water finally started to come out of exhaust after motor went to 180. Shouldnt water come out allof the time? -thomas
