Thermostat/water tube flush-torque for lower leg and stat cover.

Good day guys, I just received a 30 hp Mariner, 2 cylinder one carb, serial number 30 ML 689 L 331200.

I'm in the process of cleaning it up to get it going (because it was submerged 5 years ago, but ran immediately after, then stored) based on you guys' great advice.

I was told to flush it with fresh water via the thermostat hole and water tube from the lower leg. Is this a plausible thing to do? Grill me if not please!

Now, my questions are, what are the torque specs for the thermostat housing, lower leg unit, and impellor housing bolts for this motor?

Appreciate any advice guys.

Thanks

Robby

Yes, the flush will help. There is also a product on the market called "Salt away" (probably various products). A good dose of that wouldn't hurt either (along with the fresh water).

Themostat cover - 60 inch pounds (5 foot pounds)

Lower unit - 150 inch pounds (12 1/2 foot pounds - but really between 10-15 is fine)

Waterpump cover - 50 inch pounds (4'ish foot pounds).

None of these items is really holding back any pressure, so "just tight" is fine if you don't have a torque wrench...

You can get vinyl(?) tubing in sizes that will be a decent fit in the water tube and the thermostat openings, as well as various plastic fittings to adapt the tubing to your garden hose, at an Ace Hardware or equivalent. Makes the flushing a little dryer :)
