Thermostat question

ran into an issue when attempting to install new 160 deg F thermostat. Bought 807252Q5 for my 2005 Mercruiser. My old one was a 807252. The new one has a small piece dangling loose through a small hole on the flange. The thermostat is 160 deg F which is what I need and it fits except for this (i don't even know what to call it ) dangling thing that prevents the flange from laying flat against the gasket. Anyone know if I can just cut this thing of without any adverse effect?

I belive that is an air vent to burp out any air. If it is a factory correct thermostat shouldn’t need to modify it. There is also a sleeve in there is it in in the correct orientation ?

Here is the parts breakdown for your engine ( assumed serial number range ) shows a different part number for the 160 not sure if that is the issue as it looks like the numbers you mention were superceeded.

Forgot to mention the sleeve is identical plus the kit came with the correct gasket and more for other applications. I think I m good now and thanks for your input!
