" What difference will be made if I run a 142 degree or a 160 degree thermostat? Also, should I use soft or hard wall hoses when replacing them? "
 
"Generally a 142 deg. thermost

"Generally a 142 deg. thermostat is used for a raw water cooled engine and the 160 deg for a closed cooled system. However, if you live in a cold water region you can use the 160. Mercruiser uses a 142 on both of these systems and OMC uses 160 on both systems. If your temperature is running too cold you should step it up.
Hardwall hoses are best if you can use them. otherwise the softwall molded hoses are fine, since they are not on the suction side.
