" Thanks to all...especially Joe, as it appears the changing of the water pump and the cleaning of the cylinder cover water passages did the trick as I was out for 2 1/2 hors today in 41C heat and there was no sign of the overheat buzzer.

What happens if the temp switches are not connected...does the buzzer sound?

Nope. the buzzer doesn't sound. The engine comes to a screeching halt, so hot it smokes, all gaskets fail, electrical componets melt, many engine parts warp..... and you are in the market for either a complete rebuild or a new engine.
