stupid question but what do yo

stupid question but what do you guys use to test your outboards in ..... i have a pair of muffs but ive been told there not really a good way to test...........so what do you guys use thats big enough
 
muffs are fine.......just dont

muffs are fine.......just dont go in the house and hang out with your ob runnin.....they can slip down due to vibration and age.

i use a 5 gallon bucket for my 9.8 and 18.........muffs for 115.

the only thing you have to remember is when you are setting the idle it will idle lower in the water due to back pressure...so just bump it up a little or wait till you get to the drink to set it.

"You can use any large plastic barrel, garbage can etc....there are ones out there made for collecting rain water off a roof as well. Drill a hole near the bottom that will take a regular boat plug in it before it is spread open. Stick that in the hole and fill it up, remove the plug to drain."
 
you are not getting the water

you are not getting the water flow with the muffs that you get with the lower unit submerged....for example if you take a 90 or 115 johnson and hook muffs to it the p hole will put out fine...that p hole will put out with the motor not running at all with the muffs..but you will notice you have to rev the engine higher to get exhaust water thru the jacket...muffs are last resort for me...i just dont like them..they ok to get a motor started but from that point on i want a 'tank' or the boat in the water...just my opinion...

A small tank or drum is fine but be carefull about how long you run the motor for as the exhaust will heat up the water

Leave the hose running a little allowing water to spill over the top. New water keeps things cool.

"I wait tell my wife is at work, then grab the garbage can slide it under the motor and fill it up. BTW make sure the can is clean before using otherwise you might pull some trash up in the pump

I just like the fact that you can play with your boat while your wife is working. Its a good life isn't it! LOL.
