"Thank you for your time.
I have a 1996 mercury mariner 40 HP 2Cyl 2stroke outboard with a 3 wire trigger, black, white and purple leads, and 4 wire coils.
All was running fine till returning to dock, then would it not idle and only restarted twice but wuld not idle, now it has no spark at all.
Testing the trigger's ohms, open circuit when rotated to certain position, 255k & 380k when crank is in rotated to other locations.
If these are coils, should'nt we read ohms where ever the crank is rotated too ?
Are there are slip rings in it ?
All else appears good, 16 and 14 Volts DC from Stator to coils when cranking.
From Trigger to coil with coil connected:
purple to gnd = 64 VDC.
white to gnd = 13 VDC.
From trigger to coil without coil connected:
purple to gnd = 40 VDC.
white to gnd = 48 VDC.
This outboard does not appear to have a rev limiter, and we issolated the overboard kill circuit to confirm it is not killing the fire signal.
Thank you all for your time and assistance.
Happy Fall to All !
