Hi:

I have a 2001 Johnson 70 HP and in need of this part - Temperature Switch Assembly Part No 585023 which appears to be no longer available and can't find anyone on-line who has this part. Does anyone have any suggestions for where I can get this part or if a different part would work in it's place?

Appreciate any help.

Hi,

I am in need of same sensor! Johnson 585023, port side temp switch... For my 2004 Johnson 150 (J150PLSRB). Man this sucker is tough to find!! I've found a couple of very similar-looking sensors (585203, and one or two similar) where the sensor portion looks identical, but the part only differs by the pigtail (the hard-to-find 585023 has both wires in a 2-wire connector plug, where the others either have both wires free or just one in a connector plug).. I was hoping it'd be possible to 'assemble' a replacement that way... But was not certain if those sensor units (the metal part that fits into the head) would work in my 2004 J150 application...

Joe would you be so kind as to forward me the same info? Many MANY thanks...

sfc2010... Scott, Originally I had a few of the older two wire sensors and normally the change of the model number is simply due to a different length wire, a knife connector replaced by a plug in type connector. My thought was that possibly the member could use one of what I had simply by doing a small conversion. However I had them on eBay and they were gone by the time I finished my message. That was about it.

Ah got it. I actually can find the older two-wire sensors - the ones that look the same, except for (as you say) the length of wire, and the connector plug being different (or missing)... I was thinking exactly as you indicated... To me that looks totally doable (converting it, as you say - not a problem at all)... As long as I can still score an older two-wire sensor, would you say that's a decent approach? I just wasn't sure the sensor portion was equivalent to what was in my 2004.

Thanks much Joe!

Sorry Joe - I buried my question in a paragraph ;)... Question - so you agree that it's a reasonable idea to assemble a 'proper' temp switch using the older two-wire version (which I can obtain?) I think that will work but wanted to double-check w/someone who was more familiar with the parts...

Thanks again!

Apparently that's the way to go. I know that the sensors I had were used in that manner... it's been a few week and no complaints were thrown at me. A solid indication that all is well in sensorville. Do it... nothing to lose.
