J200txe8c. I bought the motor with no temperature sensors in it and it seems to run fine it misses a little bit when I start it up and I run it at low speed but it runs fine and strong at high speeds but it idles too high the wires for the temperature sensor are one brown one on the starboard side and a brown and a white I think on the port side

Don't have a tack but I would assume that reps are probably 12 to 1400 at startup

J200TCE8C is not a correct model #. J200TXECM Does come up as a 1998 model

On the Cylinder and Crankcase parts diagram the starboard temp switch is Part #0585038 and is still available new. The port temp switch is Part # 0585039, and is no longer available. This is the one that feeds signal to the controller to engage Fast Start and increase timing to bump up your idle speed until the engine reaches temp. In the absence of that temp switch, your engine always thinks it is cold which explains your fast idle. You'll need to search used parts places to find this switch. South Central Outboards is one place that carries a lot of good used parts.

Also, I would suggest getting a tach. Without a tach you never really know exactly how your engine is running.
